Some images from a vacation we took a few years ago, in Dubrovnik.
A place of timeless peace created from regular violent upheaval.
Classical Greek and Roman stuggles , Venetian imperial, Ottoman invasion.
The Austro Hungarian inevitable slide into world war, followed by Nazi atrocity, communist security under one man’s dominance leading to a well oiled tourist trade in the 70’s until Tito
was no more.
The fact that the area and especially the city itself survived what followed, seems to me to be purely down to memory. Man’s refusal to forget, even in the worst of times, that life is fundamentally to be treasured and enjoyed.
Gorgeous! The coastline is just beautiful. I have Croatia on my list of places to see. Thank you for sharing your photos. š
