Black Cat Factory

All those years I lived in The Smoke and I never saw this amazing iconic building until shooting by in a black cab last weekend.

We didn’t get a chance to stop and look up at the art deco Egyptian reproretro columns shaped like cigarettes and papyrus, or the two black lung cats.

Now I’ve given up smoking, too late to heed the warnings, damage done, taxes paid, taxes spent, now I discover this lovely building I also discover, ironically, that the British Heart Foundation has its offices in there. Somewhere inside the pure unspoilt and restored lines of the white edifice, the desparate business of keeping people alive is panting; not purring.
